Cori Derfus was born in the early 70's growing up alongside muppets, stuffed toys, and Saturday morning cartoons while languishing in 80's hair, clothing and music. She remembers the beginning of MTV, when electronics came with dials and the internet was as far away as a replicator on Star Trek. Cori’s paintings are a combination of the past and present, in which imagination and reality co-exist. They are a place where childhood fantasies can flourish, where monsters, bugs and rabbits that talk (or smoke) can find a home and big-eyed girls can tell a tale.

Much of Cori’s art references a love of nature and animals. Her subject matter involves a reflection on the relationship between one's self and others and how one might exist alongside our world and its inhabitants. Her paintings integrate pieces of her past with current reflections on relationships with people, animals and our natural world.

Cori currently resides in the Pacific Northwest, US. She received a BFA in painting from the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh and works out of a studio in her home that she shares with a menagerie of critters, both real and make-believe.
