Christopher Umana

Christopher Umana lives and creates at the base of the Sierra mountains in northern Nevada.  His work depicts the human condition as represented through anthropomorphic figures.  His pieces have been described as "one frame movies" that feature the connections between humans, animals, insects, flora, and fauna.  He draws inspiration from variety of topics including: faith, natural law, United States and global historical and literary references, the similarities in social behavior between man and animal, life and death in correlation to different cultural reactions and superstitions as well as the other-worldly.  He combines loose and organic backgrounds with tightly rendered characters. This is a tribute to every mentor and inspiration that contributed to his creative process: from the time he was shown raw and primitive preschool finger-painting, continuing into adulthood with animation, graphic novels, design (both commercial and conceptual illustration as well as gallery work). It is a never-ending learning process, and he is always eager to learn and expand his visual vocabulary.
