Theta Scorpii 2, by Christopher Umana

In 2019, I created the first piece titled, “Theta Scorpii”. It was a "fantastical creature", comprised of elements of my Scorpio Zodiac sign. The painting showed the creature caught under domed glass for their viewing pleasure. This time, the second Theta Scorpii flies free from my subconscious onto this two-dimensional surface. It contains elements of a viper, scorpion, eagle, and the gypsy tarot Death card to signify change and moving forward to a new cycle in life. The cloth wrapped around it leads upward, mimicking a scorpion stinger. The piece is scratched up as no one gets through life unscathed. You learn, adapt, and ultimately persevere.
