Stefania Santarcangelo is an Italian artist based in Berlin.
Her artistic research is driven by the need to understand where the very origin of human suffering lies. She strives to unveil the processes of “disidentification” from the mechanisms of the mind. The aim is to convey the image into a symbol, in order to re-establish a connection with the inner harmony of the universe.
She represents this concept, seen from two complementary perspectives, through the means of oil painting and digital art. The main character of her representation is always the feminine figure, seen as suspended, almost floating in a timeless and spaceless context.
In her digital artworks the main focus is addressed by the representation of the mechanisms of the minds, mostly symbolized by clock mechanisms. In her paintings, instead, natural elements appear as metaphors of pureness and liberation.
With her recent work she questions the idea of physical and psychical integrity. Through different means she tells a story of loss and recapture, cancellation and reconstruction within the same identity or image.
